WJxc Ride#5 Curug Malela, Bandung (En)
A post in Bahasa Indonesia can be found here…
Curug is Bahasa Indonesia word for waterfall. Yes, definitely this trip focused on a beautiful waterfall which located in a remote area, a hilly area borderline between West Bandung and Cianjur, West Java Indonesia. The track was very famous of it’s beautiful sight seeing show different parts of landscapes from the double-track.
Let me warn everybody who want to take this route, you need to have a bunch stock of patience. Yes, patience. To reach the starting line already a test of patience. Me myself drive from Bandung start at 7am sharp (Cicadas area) and using preloaded GPS track and arrive at Gunung Halu, the starting point, at 1030am. Driving 3.5 hours going through 3 traditional markets overloaded to roads along the way. Yes, it is that bad. Three traditional markets are not the only cause, the track itself located in a nowhere place.
Tracklog can be found in bikemap…
My actual track a little bit modified from what described in above link. Me and my cycling mate today, Om Dani, decide to take a longer ride, bringing the starting point 5 km back to Gunung Halu. A decision which proven to be a bad decision at the end of the day.
Just recently I can manage myself to enjoy what we called ‘rolling track’ in Indonesia. The track combination of short uphill and short downhill, usually located in a hilly terrain. Anyone of you who enjoy ride a ‘rolling track’ would definitely enjoy riding this track. Combination of asphalt, gravels, macadam and loose naked soil in countless of short uphill and downhill all the way 20km track.
Amazing that the waterfall and the track located on a hilly side between the highland of Bandung and lower altitude area of Cianjur. The area consist part of tea plantation and production forest. The track will be a real challenge, again if you don’t have enough patient on the bike. Uphill and downhill, in some place steep but most of them are normal, feels like endless. You need to have enough endurance and patience to enjoy it.
Finally if you reach the end of the road, you need to left you bike, park it and enjoy the 2km hiking down into the valley. Even bicycle cannot access all the way to the waterfall. If you insist to bring your bicycle than you need to have somebody to help you going through steep walking track. The waterfall complex also prepare a campsite located around 500m from the waterfall. My visit was at the peak of dry season and water still flowing through the valley and giving easy access to water for the campsite.
Overall @antoix rating on the track:
